The Boathouse Cafe Wedding

At the Maple & Rose, nestled by the Rideau River in Merrickville, ON, Max began his preparations surrounded by family and friends. Details by Indochino and Angelica Floral, the photos embraced an authentic style—unpolished but thoughtfully composed. A final group shot at Maple & Rose brought everyone together, one that will certainly belong in the frames.

At the Boathouse Café in Kemptville, ON, Jordan prepared for her big day with an effortless elegance. Her gown, veil, and jewelry from Revelle Bridal, crafted by designer Sarah Seven, created a chic modern look, beautifully complemented by Olivia Foulkes’ makeup artistry and Chop Sue Hair’s styling. Among her details was a special gift—a delicate cross necklace she received that morning. We placed it on her veil for a timeless shot that captured both beauty and sentiment.

One of the most moving moments came when her father saw her dressed as a bride. His eyes filled with pride and emotion, a heartfelt memory that brought everyone closer as the day unfolded.

In front of the Boathouse Café, where the rain set a romantic, soft tone, Jordan and Max shared their first look. Jordan held a delicate parasol to shield herself from the drizzle, as they exchanged smiles full of anticipation and joy. This intimate moment, so full of emotion, was captured in a mix of digital shots and 120 medium-format film on my Holga, alongside some Ilford 35mm point-and-shoot film, adding rich texture and depth to the story of their day.

The rain didn’t slow them down—instead, it enhanced the moment as they moved into their vows. The layers of film added something special to their connection, grounding the significance of the moment in something timeless.

From elegant poses to fully running in the rain, these moments felt like an editorial in motion—playful, unplanned, and full of life. There was a sense of freedom in the way they moved together, completely present and caught up in the joy of the day. It was these kinds of moments, free from any posed expectation, that made their love story so uniquely theirs.

The ceremony at the Boathouse Café was a stunning display of nature-inspired elegance. Angelica Floral’s floral design captured the essence of spring with soft baby blues, delicate greens, and ethereal whites that flowed throughout the space. The florals were thoughtfully arranged, creating an atmosphere of lightness and romance. Accentuating this delicate palette were the natural elements of apples, pears, and grapes that adorned the tables, bringing a touch of organic beauty to the setting. These lush fruits complemented the florals perfectly, adding texture and a nod to the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Despite the unexpected rain, the ceremony led by Merry Fairy Weddings was an intimate, heartfelt experience. Although the original plan had been to exchange vows outside, the weather brought us indoors to a cozier setting at the Boathouse Café. The limited space became an asset, creating a close-knit, romantic atmosphere where every guest felt connected to the moment. The officiant’s words beautifully captured Jordan and Max’s journey, while the ambiance added an extra layer of charm and intimacy that wouldn’t have been possible in a larger, open-air space.

We crossed the street from the Boathouse Café for some memorable, rain-soaked family portraits. In light of the downpour, Jordan, Max, and their family leaned into the moment, creating candid, joyful images that captured both the intimacy and spontaneity of the day. The umbrellas may have been out, but spirits were high as everyone braved the rain together, creating truly unforgettable family portraits that celebrated the joy of being fully present—rain or shine.

During cocktail hour, conversations filled the air, mingling with the soft sound of raindrops, and a sense of closeness blossomed as everyone came together to celebrate—umbrellas in hand and spirits high.

Before their first dance, Jordan and Max exchanged a lighthearted glance, setting the tone for a reception. Their graceful, laughter-filled steps brought smiles to everyone in the room, followed by heartfelt speeches that added depth to the celebration. With incredible catering by Tulips & Maple and beats by Extreme DJ Ottawa, the atmosphere was complete—elegant, lively, and full of love.

We embraced the rain with full-on energy, dancing and laughing as the mist rolled over the landscape. Jordan didn't hold back, laying back in the tall, rain-soaked grass. The rain turned this moment into something raw, beautifully moody, and unforgettable.

After our rainy adventure outside, stepping back indoors felt like pure camaraderie. Jordan’s best friends were right there, gently brushing off droplets and grass as everyone shared laughs over the fun we just had. A stunning cake by Victoria’s Cake Studio, made for a beautiful centerpiece for the evening’s celebration. It was a moment of transition both messy and real but made all the more special by the love in the room.

Jordan and Max’s wedding day was everything a celebration should be—intimate, joyful, and a little spontaneous. Starting with the tender moments at the Maple & Rose, followed by Jordan's relaxed prep at the Boathouse Café, every detail felt personally crafted. Rain only added to the magic, leading to impromptu dances and portraits that captured their playful spirits. Their ceremony and reception unfolded beautifully indoors, where heartfelt speeches and lively dancing set the perfect tone. With a gorgeous cake from Victoria’s Cake Studio, lush florals, and the most thoughtful touches throughout, the day was full of love, laughter, and memories they’ll carry forever.
